$1000 REWARD

Provide website visitors with an explanation of how the Federal Columbia River Power System Biological Opinion will bring about the recovery of Idaho's Sockeye Salmon and receive one thousand dollars from the non-profit organization www.bluefish.org.

The offer has gone unclaimed under the plan submitted by the previous administration. "Recovery" was previously defined by bluefish as bringing about a 1:1 adult-to-adult return ratio. NOAA Fisheries' Brian Gorman stated that this standard was possibly too strict and that would explain why the reward has yet to be claimed.

"Recovery" is now defined by bluefish as the de-listing of Idaho's Sockeye from Endangered Species Act protection. This new standard along with a legally defensible Biological Opinion will allow for the reward to be claimed promptly. The general public as well as all federal, state and tribal biologists are eligible for the $1000 reward.

FEEDBACK: Snake River Sockeye Recovery Plan by Scott Levy, Columbia Basin Bulletin, 11/19/11

Previously this web page was the following from the Idaho Mountain Express (5/23/08):

A locally based Web library that features issues pertaining to salmon recovery is offering $1,000 for information leading to science-based support of a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries' claim that a 2008 salmon plan provides for "recovery" of Idaho's sockeye salmon.

The Web site's administrator, Scott Levy, has not been able to find justification in the current plan, which can be found at www.salmonrecovery.gov/.

Recovery is defined by Levy as a one-to-one, adult-to-adult return ratio, which means for every two salmon that return to Idaho to spawn, two adults return four years later. The definition of recovery by the government, Levy said, is "much less well defined."

"I have been unable to find justification in the current plan, and I'm seeking assistance from biologists or interested parties in revealing such justification to our Web site visitors," Levy said. Levy can be contacted at www.bluefish.org.

Press Release:
BLUEFISH.ORG WEBSITE OFFERS $1000 REWARD
How does the 2008 Salmon Plan recover Idaho's Sockeye?

The resource library www.bluefish.org is offering a one thousand dollar reward for information leading to science-based support of NOAA Fisheries' claim that the 2008 Salmon Plan provides for recovery of Idaho's Sockeye Salmon. Recovery is defined by bluefish.org director Scott Levy as a one-to-one adult to adult return ratio (i.e. for every two adult spawners, two adults return to spawn four years later).

Levy goes on to say, "After reading through the four thousand plus pages of the 2008 Salmon Plan (officially the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries' 2008 Federal Columbia River Power Systems Biological Opinion, or NOAA Fisheries' 2008 FCRPS BiOp), I was unable to find evidence to support the NOAA Fisheries conclusion that 'the FCRPS RPS is not likely to jeopardize the continued existence of the Snake River Sockeye ESU.' As I may well have missed something, I am looking for someone to help reveal to our website visitors how this latest plan will lead to recovery of Idaho's Sockeye."

Contact www.bluefish.org with any information leading to science-based support that the proposed 2008 Salmon Plan provides for recovery of Idaho's Sockeye salmon and receive the one thousand dollar reward. The supporting document that you provide will be made available on the www.bluefish.org website for the many visitors interested in the plight of Idaho's wild Salmon and Steelhead. State, Tribe and NOAA Fisheries' biologist are eligible for the reward.
