ENTERPRISE - The Upper Snake River opens Friday to spring Chinook fishing between Dug Bar and Hells Canyon Dam.

The open area is the Snake River from Dug Bar boat ramp upstream to the fishing deadline below Hells Canyon Dam through June 18.

Fishing is open Fridays through Mondays each week.

Officials with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and Idaho Fish and Game, predict that 25,400 hatchery adipose fin-clipped adult spring- and summer-run Chinook and 13,100 non-hatchery native adult spring and summer Chinook will migrate over Lower Granite Dam this year.

Preliminary projections are that 383 adipose-clipped, hatchery adults Chinook will make it to the fish trap at the base of Hells Canyon Dam.

"Half of the 383 returning fish have been identified as surplus to Oregon and Idaho hatchery program needs," said Scott Patterson, the Oregon Fish and Wildlife's Northeast Region hatchery coordinator. "We're hopeful that opening this fishery provides anglers the experience of landing one of these magnificent fish."

The daily bag limit is one adipose fin-clipped spring Chinook a day. Only barbless hooks may be used.
