Orca Advocates say
Remove Snake River Dams

by Associated Press

SEATTLE -- Orca advocates told federal fisheries officials that four Snake River dams should be removed to boost production of salmon -- a food source for Puget Sound killer whales.

Six orca scientists make the recommendation in a letter to NOAA Fisheries, which manages Columbia-Snake River salmon.

One researcher with The Whale Museum in Friday Harbor, Rich Osborne, says restoring Columbia River Chinook salmon is the single most important thing in ensuring the survival of Puget Sound orcas.
