Grieving Orca:
Fishing, Pollution

by Susan Ward
Seattle Times, August 2, 2018

Breaching Orca aka. killer whale We are watching a tragedy unfold. It is heartbreaking, and we feel helpless to do anything. But the message is clear, whether the whales send it or not. We have to do more to save the Sound, the orcas and the salmon.

Without chinook salmon, the orcas will starve to death. We must agree on a moratorium on chinook fishing in Washington waters. We must further reduce pollution in the Salish Sea from all sources, and noise pollution. We must eliminate the sea lions decimating salmon in the lower Columbia River. We must support measures to increase the numbers of forage fish, like herring

We've done a lot; it isn't enough. We must take stronger steps to save the chinook, the orcas and the Sound
