Spraying Streams is Part of the Kill

by Glen Hemerick
Capital Press, February 13, 2004

Farmers build homes on high ground. Modern suburbanite settlers put trailers or build homes with septic tanks close to water. When the tank is full they can still flush, into the stream. Household chemicals kill fish and other aquatic organisms. The homes are under water when it rains.

The settlers plant grass and apply a herbicide and fertilizer product, which kills eelgrass, a natural fish nursery. The product also contains dioxin, which kills all animal life downstream that week.

The settlers hire commercial spray companies to spray trees, which kills termites, mosquitoes, bees, wasps and tent caterpillars, as well as fish and pollinating insects needed fruit, berries, and beans.
