PG&E Seeks to Expand Solar Power

The Hanford Sentinel, February 9, 2016

Rooftop solar being installed. Solar 'Is Going to Overtake Everything' Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has launched a new program in an effort to promote the use of solar energy.

The Solar Choice program extends the option for 100 percent solar power to customers regardless of whether or not they intend to install rooftop solar panels on their homes or businesses. These customers can purchase half or all of their electric power from solar farms located in Northern and Central California.

"PG&E's Solar Choice program is all about giving customers more choice and control over their energy," said PG&E Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer Laurie Giammona.

"Our customers already enjoy some of the cleanest power in the country," said Giammona. "Now, they can directly contribute to bringing more renewable energy onto the electric grid."

According to PG&E, approximately half of U.S. households and businesses are unable to install rooftop solar panels due to ownership limitations, or lack of space or sun exposure. The Solar Choice program aims to bypass these limitations by offering solar energy directly from solar farms.
