I found U.S. Rep. Adam Smith's Nov. 5 guest column "Renewable resources energize the future" limited in statistical information. For example, he did not give any data as to how many windmills are required to replace the clean, renewable energy now generated by the four dams on the Snake River. Would that be 75,000 windmills? Likewise, if farmers are slated to have windmills on their land, how do they irrigate? Indeed, how significantly will windmills interfere with large circle crop irrigation systems? Is there a trade-off? Is there any chance Adams will insert a rider in the next energy bill stating, "No current dam producing or capable of producing hydroelectric power will be removed until the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is producing an equivalent amount of energy"?
