Power Planning Council to Hold
Public Hearing on Region's Electricity Needs

by Ted Sickinger
The Oregonian, October 13, 2009

The Northwest Power Planning and Conservation Council will hold a final public hearing Wednesday in Portland on its updated plan to meet the region's electricity needs during the next two decades.

The hearing starts at 6 p.m. at the EcoTrust Building Conference Center, 721 NW 9th Avenue.

The power plan, which the council updates every five years, provides guidance for the Bonneville Power Administration in meeting the electricity needs of its 147 utility customers. The federal power marketing agency is required to make resource decisions consistent with the plan, which also serves as a backdrop for resource planning by private utilities such as Portland General Electric and PacifiCorp.

The latest plan envisions 58 percent of the region's new electricity demand being met with energy efficiency measures during the next five years and 85 percent during the next 20 years.
