U.S. Awards Bypass Relocation Contract at 980-MW McNary by PennWell HydroWorld, September 20, 2011

WALLA WALLA, Wash., U.S. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $10.2 million contract to Advanced American Construction Inc. to relocate a juvenile fish bypass outfall pipe at 980-MW McNary Dam.

Corps' Walla Walla District took bids Aug. 5 for the work at McNary on the Columbia River in Oregon. The work is proposed to improve survival of bypassed fish returned to the river by relocating the juvenile bypass outfall pipes to a location with improved hydraulic conditions, reducing predation opportunity.

Advanced American, of Portland, Ore., is to relocate the bypass outfall at McNary from its current location about 250 feet downstream from the dam in front of the powerhouse to a new location about 1,100 feet downstream from the dam and 1,200 feet away from the bank out into the river.
