New Rule Changes for Anglers Targeting Spring Chinook
Above Bonneville Dam in the Columbia River

by Mark Yuasa
Seattle Times, April 13, 2015

Longview officials say they're continuing effort to build facility to receive crude from North Dakota

Young fishermen display their catch of Chinook Salmon. Some changes for spring chinook fishing will occur now through June 15 on the Columbia River above Bonneville Dam, according to a news release by state Fish and Wildlife.

On the Washington shoreline of the Columbia from Tower Island power lines (approximately six miles below The Dalles Dam) down to Bonneville Dam anglers will be allowed to use hand-casted lines for hatchery spring chinook. During this time it will still remain illegal to use a floating device to set lines for salmon and steelhead.

The possession catch limit will also be increased to an additional two daily limits of salmon in the fresh form - up to four adult salmon - on the Columbia from The Dalles Dam up to the Washington/ Oregon state line. Boat anglers will still only be able to possess on daily limit of salmon in the fresh form.
