Salmon River Cleanup Volunteers Needed by Staff Idaho Mountain Express, September 8, 2004

Central Idaho’s famous Salmon River will be the local focal point on National Public Lands Day, Saturday, Sept. 18.

The intent of the event will be to clean up garbage, tires and other trash in and along the banks of the Salmon River from Clayton to Corn Creek. The river will be divided into sections for volunteers to float or walk.

Volunteers can select any river section they wish.

There will be a barbecue following the clean up at the Sacajewea Center, east of Salmon. Prizes will be given in various categories—like the largest or strangest piece of trash collected.

According to Salmon-Challis National Forest spokesperson Gail Baer, the Salmon River is definitely a treasure to preserve.

Thousands of floaters, anglers and sightseers gravitate to the river annually to enjoy its natural beauty and adventures. In addition, the Salmon River serves as a primary natural recreation attraction in Central Idaho, providing a significant boost to the local economy.

“So, mark your calendar, grab your boat and friends and let’s make a day of helping lean up the Salmon River and preserve it for future generations,” Baer wrote in a press release.
