Wind farm in USA. (Author: Sam Howzit. License: Creative Commons. Attribution 2.0 Generic) San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) said it had reached record-high renewable power generation of 1,042 MW at 1251 local time on August 19, thanks to a combination of bright sunshine and strong wind conditions.

The figure does not include the output of 61,000 SDG&E rooftop solar customers.

The company, part of Sempra Energy, says it is the first utility in California to have delivered 33% renewable power over the last 12 months. The company has 3.4 million consumers.

California, as a whole, also reached a new record for renewable power peak generation on August 19. The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) recorded output of 6,341 MW at 1342 local time. Its previous all-time statewide peak was 6,330 MW, from a week earlier.

Tsvetomira Tsanova has been following the going-ons in the global renewable energy industry for six years now. With a soft spot for emerging markets, she is up to date with the hottest and most important topics that are reshaping the sector.
