The Next Seinfeld

Letter to Editor from Dan Goicoechea of Boise
April 14, 1999 Wood River Journal

Let's make sure I have this straight.

You, who want to tear down four Snake River dams, are saying an island full of Caspian terns, proven to eat at least 25 percent of the salmon smolts on their way to the sea, doesn't have any effect on the runs.

You say that century-high numbers of sea lions, which feast on salmon, don't have any effect on the runs.

You say that the hundreds of fishing nets strung up and down the Columbia River don't have any effect on the runs.

You say tearing out the dams will bring the salmon back.

And now, incredibly, you're claiming removing the dams will give birth to a recreation industry worth -- what was it? -- $5 BILLION per year?

Hang on to the material. You could be the next Seinfeld.
