Area's Fall Chinook Season Set to Open August 18 by Staff Lewiston Tribune, August 1, 2018

Idaho's fall chinook fishing season on the Snake River and short sections of the lower Clearwater and lower Salmon rivers will open on Aug. 18, according to a news release from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

Fisheries managers are expecting a return of more than 18,000 adult fish, including about 12,000 hatchery fish and more than 6,100 wild fish to return this fall.

Fishing will be allowed from the Washington/Idaho border on the Snake River upstream to Hells Canyon Dam, on the Clearwater River from its mouth to Memorial Bridge and on the Salmon River from its mouth to the Eye of the Needle Rapid.

The Clearwater River, Salmon River and the part of the Snake River downstream of Cliff Mountain Rapid will close Oct. 31 unless harvest rates lead to an earlier closing. The Snake from Cliff Mountain Rapid to Hells Canyon Dam will close Nov. 18 if it isn't shut down earlier.

The daily bag limit will be six adipose fin-clipped adult chinook. There is no limit on the number of chinook that can be kept during the season.

Anglers will be allowed to keep both clipped and unclipped jack chinook without a daily or season limit.
