Set Dams for Demolition

by Annalisa Grumich
The Oregonian, May 26, 2007

Congratulations to all those involved in the removal of the Sandy River dams ("Dams' demolition will give NW's wild salmon a break," May 23). This is a great step forward for people and wildlife in our area.

As Portland General Electric's John Esler put it, this was "a business decision that makes sense for the environment." Now why is it so hard for Northwest leaders to use this model for the four dams on the Snake River?

PGE and its investors looked at the bottom line and ultimately made a financial decision on the Sandy River. As taxpayers and "investors" in our region, we deserve to have our representatives examine the wasteful spending occurring in the Snake Basin.
