		Shared Solution on Salmon
by Mary Lynn GregsonThe Oregonian, April 11, 2009 |
Thanks to Cecil Andrus for his thoughtful opinion on the future of Columbia and Snake River salmon recovery.
To be done right, decision making for salmon recovery must be a shared endeavor amongst elected leaders and affected communities, not just the federal agencies. The current situation in the Columbia and Snake Rivers has only benefited a handful of industries and has led us far from honest salmon recovery.
Solutions must include insight from farmers, fishermen, scientists, tribes, energy-users and taxpayers. While the dialogue may become strained at times, real change will require some uncomfortable moments. Communities of the Northwest deserve the right to determine the fate of one of our signature resources.
