Spring Chinook Fishing Seasons on Snake River Coming to a Close by Staff Daily Sun News, June 25, 2015

The spring Chinook salmon season is coming to a close for local anglers, on the Washington state portion of the Snake River.

Two popular areas for snagging the Chinook will close one hour after sunset this coming Saturday, June 27.

The first area closing on Saturday is below Little Goose Dam on the Snake River, from the Texas Rapids boat launch on the south side of the river upstream of the mouth of Tucannon River, to the fishing restriction boundary below little Goose Dam. This zone includes the rock and concrete area between the juvenile bypass return pipe and Little Goose Dam along the south shoreline of the facility (includes the walkway area locally known as "the Wall" in front of the juvenile collection facility).

The second area being closed to Chinook salmon fishing this coming Saturday is near Clarkston. That part of the Snake River includes the area from the downstream edge of the large power lines crossing the Snake River (just upstream from West Evans Road on the south shore), upstream about 3.5 miles to the Washington state line (from the east levee of the Greenbelt boat launch in Clarkston northwest across the Snake River to the Washington/Idaho boundary waters marker on the Whitman County shore).

Anglers have until one hour after sunset on Tuesday, June 30, before the Snake River below Ice Harbor Dam is closed off to Chinook fishing. That area is from the southbound Hwy. 12 bridge near Pasco, upstream about seven miles to the fishing restriction boundary below the dam.

Under the current United States vs. Oregon management agreement, spring Chinook fishing seasons on the Washington portion of the Snake River are not allowed to extend into July.
