Snake River Dams
Spill Water to Help Fish

by Staff
Tri-City Herald, April 6, 2015

Water runs through spillway gates of Lower Monumental Dam on the Lower Snake River in southeastern Washington. Increased spills benefit salmon. The Army Corps of Engineers began spilling water at its lower Snake River Dams on Friday and will start spilling water at Columbia River dams April 10.

The gates are opened to spill water starting in the spring to help juvenile salmon and steelhead as they head toward the ocean.

The spill has started at Lower Granite, Little Goose, Lower Monumental and Ice Harbor dams on the Snake River, with the Columbia River spill planned to start at McNary Dam.
