Record Day for Sockeye at Ice Harbor

by Eric Barker
Lewiston Tribune, July 1, 2010

Sockeye run timing at Ice Harbor 2008-2010 Snake River sockeye salmon, the Columbia Basin's most endangered salmon run, is starting to hit Snake River dams in good numbers. On Wednesday, 80 sockeye were recorded crossing Ice Harbor Dam near the Tri-Cities. That is a daily record there.

Mike Peterson of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game expects more records to be broken this summer as the sockeye run progresses upriver. He reports that as many as 925 adult sockeye bound for the Snake River and the Stanley Basin have already passed Bonneville Dam.

So far this year 80 sockeye have crossed Lower Granite Dam, still 400 miles shy of their destination. The graph's below are from Peterson.
