'Save Our Dams' Rally Planned in Pasco

by Staff
Tri-City Herald, August 10, 2012

(Kevin Wolf/Associated Press) House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Doc Hastings, R-Wash., left, shares a laugh with Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., right, before the start of a committee hearing Jan. 26 in Washington, D.C. The Pasco Chamber of Commerce plans a "Save Our Dams" Rally before the Wednesday congressional committee field hearing on hydropower legislation.

Supporters of the Lower Snake River Dams and the Federal Columbia River Power System can gather at 8:15 a.m. in front of TRAC in Pasco for the rally. The hearing will start inside at 9 a.m. with invited speakers testifying before the Tri-City Herald, which Rep. Doc Hastings, R-Wash., leads.

After the hearing, the Save Our Wild Salmon organization plans a news conference in Pasco to explain why it believes the hydropower legislation sponsored by Hastings is heavy handed and harmful. The organization is a coalition of groups, including American Rivers, Columbia Riverkeeper and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
