Spring Chinook Update 4/1

by Allen Thomas
The Columbian, April 4, 2013

Adult Chinook caught by hook and brought into drift boat using a net. The Columbia River Compact decided today that there will be no commercial fishing on Tuesday. It likely will be on April 9 with a seven- to nine-chinook landing limit per boat to keep from exceeding the commercial allocation.

I'll have a full compact story at little later today,

At Bonneville Dam, the spring chinook count was 22 on Friday, 26 on Saturday and 45 on Sunday. That brings the season total to 286, plus two jacks. The count through March 31 last year was 39. The 10-year average through March 31 is 2,109.

The Columbia remains a low 138,000 cubic feet per second at Bonneville Dam. The temperature is 46 degrees.

I'll have a summary of weekend sport sampling later in the day. I did not fish this weekend, but I'm told it was poor at least in the Camas-Washougal area.
