Studying the Snake River Dams

by Elizabeth Cobbs
Spokesman-Review, June 17, 2019

Praise and a "Thank You" for Jay Inslee and the signing of a state budget that included $750,000 line item in the capital budget that commissions a state-funded study on breaching the federally-owned and operated Snake River dams.

Breaching the four Lower Snake River dams will provide adequate food supplies to the endangered Southern Resident killer whales. This study is an act for the "greater good," of "right action" and integrity. It is the long view that will provide for an ecosystem beyond our lifetimes.

That there are those among us that fought to eliminate even this study should be of deep political and ethical concern.

That the loss of salmon was not met with the same concern for the Spokane Indians, their heritage, and their culture is a shame we all wear.
