Summer Chinook Season Will Close Early

by Bill Monroe
The Oregonian, July 15, 2011

Oregon and Washington will close adult chinook and sockeye salmon seasons in the Columbia River below Bonneville Dam and the sockeye season upriver from Bonneville on Sunday evening.

Biologists have downgraded the summer chinook run from a prediction of 91,500 fish to 80,000 and said the lower river sport quota will be met by the end of the weekend.

Fishing below Bonneville had been scheduled to last through July 31.

Adult chinook fishing will continue from the dam upriver.

Anglers in the river below the dam can continue to fish for hatchery summer steelhead and may keep jack chinook, but not sockeye.
