Corps' Dams Starts Wednesday

by Staff
Walla Walla Union-Bulletin, May 7, 2013

WALLA WALLA -- Navigation locks at Columbia and Snake River dams will return to summer schedules Wednesday.

The schedules are the same at all eight dams the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates on the Columbia-Snake River system and apply only to recreational boaters.

Boaters headed upstream may lock through at 9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m., 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Downstream boaters will be allowed to lock through at 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The summer schedule will remain in effect until Sept. 15.

Recreational vessels have precedence over commercial vessels during the designated times. At other times, recreational vessels may be allowed to lock through with commercial craft at the discretion of the lockmaster.

Lockage outside the scheduled times will be considered for flotillas or other organized events sponsored by yacht clubs, marinas and other groups. Arrangements must be made 24 hours in advance with the appropriate location.

Information is available online at www.nwp.usace.army.mil/navigation/home.asp.
