Salmon Fishing Returns to Little Salmon,
Ends on Clearwater

by Staff
Lewiston Tribune, June 4, 2013

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission approved a three-day fishing season that starts Friday on the Little Salmon River.

At the same time, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game closed fishing for spring chinook jacks on the Clearwater River and its North, South and Middle forks.

The Lower Salmon and Little Salmon rivers closed to salmon fishing last Sunday. Fisheries managers had expected the state's share of the Rapid River run to be exhausted by that time. But fishing slowed and there is still 500 adult chinook remaining on the states harvest share. Anglers will have a chance to catch those remaining fish, starting Friday and lasting through Sunday.

All chinook fishing is officially over on the Clearwater River. The river and its tributaries had closed to adult harvest a few weeks ago but portions of the basin remained open to the jack fishing. That changed today, when the department made the decision to end the season.
