Officials Talked Tourism Tuesday

CLARKSTON - It's all about bringing the masses to the L-C Valley.

Tourism officials from across the Valley met Tuesday to discuss how to be more effective in attracting visitors to the region.

"We're working on the Valley-wide strategic tourism plan," said Hells Canyon Visitors Bureau Executive Director Michelle Peters. "We are hoping to create a Valley-wide tourism bureau. We think we'd be more effective if we pool our dollars together, resources from Clarkston and Lewiston, and marketed for one Valley-wide tourism bureau."

The committee enlisted special help to teach them what to do.

"We have a representative here today from the Boise Visitor and Convention Bureau to assist us and let us know what the procedures are to a Valley-wide visitor bureau and help us out on some of the programs that they have done in the past as well," said Peters.

Tuesday's guest speaker, Bobbie Patterson, is Executive Director of the Boise Bureau. She talked about emphasizing what is unique about the Valley and how everyone is on board.

"Right now, everyone in the community has decided, the commissioners and cities, visitor bureau and chambers, have decided it's a great idea to create a Valley-wide tourism bureau," Peters said. "So now the process begins to bring everyone together. The logistics, the funding and our budget and how we will be able to create that all together, by working together."
