Tribes Open Fall Commercial Fishery by Staff KNDO/KNDU, August 26, 2009

RICHLAND, Wash. - The Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission's 2009 fall commercial fishery is open. The tribal fisherman began commercial fishing yesterday and are now selling the Columbia River fish. Some locations include Marine Park in Cascade Locks, Lone Pine in The Dalles, North Bonneville - one mile east of Bonneville Dam, and Columbia Point in Richland.

The over the bank sales run daily from 9 a.m. till dusk and offer a variety of fresh fish such as salmon, steel head, cat fish, shad and walleye. Suzanne Lumley is in charge of the Columbia Point sales and says the price of fish is low. Lumley said, "It wasn't till this year that the prices came down so low that we decided to come out and try and sell them ourselves instead of going to the fish buyers."

When purchasing the fresh fish be sure to bring a cooler and ice. The tribal fishers can also offer advise on fish freshness and preparation.
