BOISE, Idaho -- Anglers, the last stocking of steelheads in the Boise River for the season is taking place on Monday, Nov. 27.

Take advantage of this winter fishing with an additional 130 steelheads being released into the Boise River. It will be the final batch of the year, with roughly 25 fish going to each drop-off location, a news release stated.

The fish, which were trapped at Hells Canyon Dam on the Snake River, will lack an adipose fin. The adipose fin is found immediately behind the dorsal fin, and if anglers catch a rainbow trout longer than 20 inches and lack an adipose fin, they should consider the fish a steelhead.

There is a limit of two fish per day, six in possession and 20 for the fall season. Anglers will need both a valid fishing license as well as a steelhead permit for the hatchery fish. Permits can be purchased at any Idaho Department of Fish and Game(IDFG) office or many other vendors across the state.

Any angler who catches a steelhead without a permit should immediately return the fish to the water, as it is illegal to target steelheads without a permit, IDFG said.
