Date Changed for Bypass Relocation
Bidding at 980-MW McNary

by PennWell
HydroWorld, July 26, 2011

McNary Dam WALLA WALLA, Wash., U.S. 7/26/11 (PennWell) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has changed the deadline for bids to relocate a juvenile fish bypass outfall pipe at 980-MW McNary Dam. Bids now are due Aug. 5

Corps' Walla Walla District previously issued notices saying it would take bids Aug. 31 for the work at McNary on the Columbia River in Oregon and Aug. 9 for similar work at 810-MW Lower Monumental Dam on the Snake River in Washington.

The work is proposed to improve survival of bypassed fish returned to the river by relocating the juvenile bypass outfall pipes to a location with improved hydraulic conditions, reducing predation opportunity.

The district plans to relocate the bypass outfall at McNary from its current location about 250 feet downstream from the dam in front of the powerhouse to a new location about 1,100 feet downstream from the dam and 1,200 feet away from the bank out into the river. The work is valued at between $10 million and $25 million.

A solicitation notice for the McNary work may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W912EF11R0016 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box. Bids are due Aug. 31. For information, contact Phyllis L. Buerstatte, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, CENWW-CT, 201 N. 3rd Ave., Walla Walla, WA 99362-1876; (1) 509-527-7211.
