U.S. Extends Bidding for Rewind, Cavitation
Repair at 810-MW Lower Monumental Dam

The work is valued at $10 million to $25 million.

Lower Monumental Dam (USACE Digital Visual Library) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has extended the deadline for bids for generator rewinds and turbine cavitation repairs at 810-MW Lower Monumental Dam on the Snake River in Washington. Bids now are due June 2.

The Corps' Walla Walla District previously called for bids by May 5. The district took bids last year to refurbish thrust bearing shoes at Lower Monumental and 603-MW Ice Harbor dams. The Portland District called for bids by May 15 to install digital governors at Lower Monumental and eight other hydro projects.

The Walla Walla District now seeks bids to rewind generators and repair turbine cavitation at Lower Monumental. The Corps said generator Unit 1 experienced a runner hub linkage failure, prompting the Corps to weld blocks to the hub to hold the blades in a fixed position. The proposed work would replace internal hub linkage components requiring disassembly of the main unit and turbine runner, with a provision to inspect and refurbish other turbine and generator components.

Repairs would include cavitation repair to Unit 1 blades, hub and discharge ring as well as repair of cavitation damage to the Unit 2 runner. The contractor also would supply a new stator winding and stator core.

The work is valued at $10 million to $25 million.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W912EF15R0001 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

Bids now are due by 2 p.m., Pacific time, June 2. For information, contact Phyllis Buerstatte, Contract Specialist, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, CENWW-CT, 201 N.
