Andritz to Rewind Unit 3 at
Corps' Dworshak Hydropower Plant

by Michael Harris
HydroWorld, October 1, 2015

Dworshak Dam inundated the world's largest steelhead habitat and now, just downstream, sits the world's largest hatchery production of steelhead. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $10.1 million contract to the Andritz Hydro Corp. to replace generator windings on the Unit 3 turbine-generator at the 402-MW Dworshak hydropower plant.

The Corps' Walla Walla District most recently solicited bids for the work in July.

Per the award, Andritz will disassemble Unit 3, provide and install a new stator core and winding, and reassemble and commission the unit.

Dworshak is located on the North Fork Clearwater River in Idaho. The Corps has also sought bids to upgrade the facility's HVAC system, and to supply circuit breakers and capacitors.
